I can't quite believe that I turn 40 this year . . . I decided it was time to start putting some ticks on my bucket list. So I'm starting small with the London marathon!!! I am absolutely honoured to have a place on the Young Lives Vs Cancer team (AKA CLIC Sargent), an incredible charity that supports any child and their family who is diagnosed with cancer from birth until the age of 25. Support comes in many forms for example, travel costs if they have to travel for treatment, nursing support within the home, emotional support for children following a diagnosis or even bereavement counselling should the unimaginable happen . . . even typing this makes me cry!
Anybody that knows me, knows I love to run, but I am a 3 - 5 mile kind of girl, 26 miles is going to be a huge challenge for me. But one that I am excited to take on, knowing that the money I raise will make such a difference to families when they need it most.
I have seen first hand the incredible work this charity do, having watched them support the Ritchie family, since their son Logan was diagnosed with cancer at 7 months old. Logan is now cancer free and a thriving 11 year old boy, I know that the support offered by this charity over the years has been invaluable to them.
I will be running in memory of a beautiful princess warrior, Maisie Woods, who many of you will know. No child should ever have to lose their life to this horrific disease and no parent should ever have to experience the loss of a child. I know when the long runs get tough, Maisie will be up there cheering me on and will get me to the finish line.
We need to ensure that this amazing charity continues to provide support to families when they need it most. Any sponsorship would be very gratefully received . . . and would also mean that I have to actually do this!
Official training begins in June, but I am on Strava if anyone would like to following my running journey.
