Story
Hello and thanks for your support!
On 20th August I'm doing Gaelforce West, a 67km adventure challenge involving running (through bogs), cycling (on trails), hiking (Croagh Patrick) and kayaking (in the sea) for a worthy cause.
Ten years ago, a very dear friend of mine, Linda, died from Cystic Fibrosis and I'm dedicating this to her. CF is the UK and Ireland's most common life-threatening inherited disease and approximately 1 in 20 people are carriers of the CF gene. There are few people with Cystic Fibrosis who live beyond their 30's. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has funded a programme for the past decade that has developed a form of gene therapy for CF and which passed early clinical trials this year. The drug is due to be trialled fully in Spring 2012, if the cost of £6 million is raised.
With your help, I'd like to make a contribution to the cost of this research in the hope that a successful treatment for the disease will be found.
Sincere thanks,
Niamh
