Story
Forget the blisters, a strained right knee and fatigue I am so pleased we have surpassed our target and completed the marathon in one piece.
Gareth was awesome- despite his injury and flirting with St John's ambulance team (and a few pensioners) to finish in 5 hours 7 mins was a fantastic effort.
I completed it in 4 hours 36 mins, slower than one would have liked but a PB nonetheless. It may be my last London marathon but the running bug prevails so the Edinburgh marathon next month here I come, and not just for the whisky!
Thanks so much to all of you who have sponsored us as the money is going to a fantastic cause. This was demonstrated when a female runner slapped my backside for running for Help for Heroes at 10 miles coupled with the crowds and armed forces who whooped and cheered along the course.
There is still time to contribute so please continue to give what you can.
Our forces have no say over where they go or what they do, but are injured and killed in our name. So look beyond the campaigns to the sacrifices they make for us.
The Mayor of Southwark's chosen charity, Help for Heroes, does tremendous work for returning servicemen and women injured in action. It’s a great cause so please dig deep with JustGiving and donate whatever you can.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
Thanks for all your messages of support.
