We share the vision of an end to the pain & suffering of eating disorders

Story

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm passionate to help support and help B-eat reach their vision: eating disorders will be beaten.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

B-eat is one charity close to my heart. I have turned to them on and off over the years, especially in the early days when they were known as EDA (Eating Disorders Association). B-eat is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.

I am passionate about mental illnesses in general, especially helping to break stigma as I also live with the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder. This is perhaps one of the most misunderstood and maligned mental illness.

Eating Disorders are complex and there is no one causative factor. They are insidious and dangerous. One frightening aspect which may surprise many, is that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate out of all mental illnesses.

Having said that the prognosis for those suffering with an eating disorder is good if treatment is available and accessed early on.

I would like to feel as though some good has come out of a scary and unpleasant journey. Something positive I could do to help in some small way would in turn help me too. Perhaps to build some self esteem. I would give my life to prevent one young person going down a similar journey as mine. An existence dominated by fear of food, nutrition and weight is a living hell. A place where one may feel scared to live and scared to die.

So, if anyone is able to donate any amount I would be infinitely grateful. B-eat is the UK's leading charity supporting anyone affected by eating disorders. They provide expert training to professionals and encourage research into eating disorders, for example. In fact, I have been a research participant for B-eat for may years.

One final heartfelt word, THANK YOU, for reading this and maybe considering a donation towards my head shave!
