The British Red Cross, a charity incorporated by Royal Charter 1908, helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

Story

When a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday 25th April 2015 the whole world could see what devastation it had left behind. For myself and Matt it was even more personal as our good friend Raj had travelled from the UK back to Nepal to help care for a family member and we knew he was in an affected area.  After contacting him we found that the family were safe and living in a temporary shelter. Not all were as lucky.

Since returning to the UK we have seen the photographs and heard the stories of what it was like during, and what has been left in the aftermath, of such a savage natural disaster.  It’s truly shocking and the damage is on an incomprehensible scale to one of the world’s poorest counties.

Over the last 100 years the Nepalese Gurkhas, have fought alongside allied forces to secure the freedoms that we all enjoy in modern day Europe.  When so many have sacrificed so much to enable us all to enjoy our lives as we do, we feel a duty to help at a time when they most need it.  Nepal is a poor country, they need aid, they need money and they need it now.

For your donation we will be cycling 212 miles from the Gurkha Grill in West Didsbury, Manchester to the Nepalese Embassy, Hyde Park, London on the 31st July 2015.  This will take 15 hours of continuous cycling.  The money we raise will be donated to the Red Cross Nepal earthquake appeal and will help to save lives and begin the lengthy rebuilding process of this beautiful country.
