Story
Whilst having a beer during the Christmas break, one of my closest friends (Tony) asked if I fancied a challenge in 2012...being intrigued and wanting something to aim for I naturally said yes. His reply was...how about doing the National 3 Peaks in 24 hours? My initial response was no chance, but when he elaborated on the reasons I had no hesitation in agreeing.
Just over 12 months ago Tony’s nephew (Ewan) was diagnosed with leukaemia, now 6 years old and one year into his course of treatments, he has another two years to endure.
Being a father to 3 year old twin girls I cannot begin imagine what Ewan and his family are going through.
My training has started by resurrecting my running career, trust me...this isn’t easy when I’m built for comfort and not for speed. I have also gone on a shopping spree, new boots and waterproofs, so at least I’ll look the part...all the gear and no idea (naturally!).
There are eight of us doing the challenge, which will take place 19th May. The basic timescales are; drive to Fort William and start to climb Ben Nevis at 5pm (5 hrs), drive to Scarfell Pike and start to climb at 4am (4 hrs), drive to Snowdon and start to climb at 1pm and finish by 5pm. Sounds easy when writing it down!!!
Cancer touches most people’s life in some way, shape or form. I think this is a perfect opportunity for me to give something back, so please dig deep and make a donation to our chosen charity...Children with Cancer.
