I may be from South Tyneside but I've never done the Great North Run.

Why would I run to South Shields? I'd have to pass my house! Never done the London Marathon or any 10km run either but that's more to do with the fact I can't run and don't really like it that much either.

But it all means I've never had the chance to really experience that unique atmosphere that I hear everyone talk about. And I've never had the chance to really fundraise on a big level.

I can ride a bike though. Granted it's been five stones and 30 plus years since I could ride 100 miles comfortably each week but since getting back on the machine two years ago, I've rediscovered the thrill. And in Ride London, I've found a chance to fulfill those needs missed by not being able to run.

Marie Curie is a charity that I like. They do amazing work to help people at an incredibly difficult point in their lives. And if a fat lad getting up a few hills and around a few country lanes helps, who am I to say no?
