Story
Every year approximately 100,000 people will have a stroke in the UK and a quarter of these will happen to people of working age or younger and it is the single biggest cause of disability. Different Strokes is the only charity dedicated to younger stroke survivors to provide active peer support through information, advice and rehabilitation services.I want to support Different Strokes by taking on The Different Strokes Orbit Abseil and I would love you to sponsor me - Thank you! Please note that Different Strokes are confident this event will take place in September, however, if the event needs to be re scheduled or cancelled due to Covid restrictions they hope you'll understand and not request a refund. All funds will continue to be used to support younger stroke survivors.
As many of you know, in July last year, just when Kathryn and I were looking forward to a fun filled retirement, I suffered a major stroke leaving me with left sided paralysis. I endured 3 months in a rehab centre with virtually no visits and was discharged home in October to continue my rehabilitation and begin a very different life.
It’s been a long, difficult journey and I have a long way to go but a huge source of support has been the Different Strokes charity which aims to support younger stroke survivors- I just about fall into the ‘young’ category!
The Different Strokes charity and all it’s wonderful members , have been a fantastic source of positivity, advice and inspiration and I hope to raise some much needed funds to enable them to continue with their invaluable work.
On the 5th September, I will be abseiling from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture in the Olympic Park in London to celebrate still being here albeit with a dodgy arm and leg!
I hope some of you might be able to sponsor me and help the charity.
