Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Edinburgh Marathon page.
A couple of years back, my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer - which came as a complete shock to me and my family. Fortunately for us all, after undergoing radium treatment he survived and has since made a full recovery. Thankfully, he is now back living life to the full - walking, cycling & playing golf!
Shockingly 1 in 12 men will develop prostate cancer during their life. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in Scotland and likely soon to be the most common, but ...over the past 20 years due to the advancement in medicine and heightened awareness the number of men surviving prostate cancer has doubled.
Prostate Scotland was set up in 2006 as a Scottish charity to develop awareness of prostate disease, to support men and their families/ partners with the disease through providing advice and information and to advance treatment and research into prostate disease.
To help raise money for this charity - and after my successful run in the Edinburgh ‘Rock & Roll’ half marathon on April 15th - I have made the bold decision to up the training and attempt my first full-blown marathon in Edinburgh on the 27th of May. I have heard some strange stories from fellow runners - not good ones, I may add - of how at around 18 miles in, you 'hit the wall'......so it sounds like it will be just as much a mental challenge as a physical one - and I hope a personal achievement will be gained while running for a worthy cause.
I am hoping to raise £500 - and so I would greatly appreciate any amount you are able to donate – even a small donation of 20p a mile raises £5.20 - so every little helps!
Thanks - your generosity is very much appreciated. Neil.
