Story
This October I am aiming to run over 100 miles in memory of my dad Alan Martin who died on the 26th June 2020.
My dear dad was taken from us aged 71. In 2016 he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer which he lived with for 4 years before cruelly being diagnosed with two incurable glioblastoma brain tumours, the most aggressive and deadly type. Three months later he died. Seeing his decline at the hands of this awful illness was heartbreaking, I take comfort in knowing along with my mum and brother we cared for him until the end.
I couldn’t have asked for a better dad, a kind hearted , warm and loving man who didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He would talk to anyone and loved the odd pint! I see myself in him, we are similar in so many ways. His death has left a massive hole in my life, however I know he’ll be proud of me the way of cracked on and got on with life with Emma and the girls.
It’s been 15 months since he was taken from us and I thought it was time to focus the mind and take on a challenge. People may say running 100 miles in a month will be easy for me, however throw in shift work, Emma working shifts and having two girls to entertain, time is at a premium!
Having previously fundraised for prostate cancer I thought it was time to switch charity and try and make a small difference to help people diagnosed with brain tumours. Please give all you can to help me raise my target.
