Story
I will be running the Amsterdam Marathon on October 16th in aid of The Goed Life alongside Jamie Spanswick, Cameron Koolhoven & George Saunders My older brother, Sam, who has Down Syndrome, started working in a café in Northampton a few years ago. His experience was life changing. His communication & life skills progressed beyond recognition and he developed a sense of pride and belonging that he couldn't find in any day centre.
As such, we set up The Goed Life with an aim to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities through helping them find meaningful employment, whilst supporting their families in any way possible.
Currently there are 1.5 million people in the UK with learning disabilities and 94% are unemployed, we don't think it needs to be this way! There are opportunities for both employer and employee in hiring people with learning disabilities.
Any support will go straight to boots on the ground, with one primary cost being for the job coaches and carers. For context, £18 will pay for a job coach for one hour.
