Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and ruddy massive Ta to everyone who’s donated so far. Keep the faith and stick with me.

In September 2021 I set off on Stage 1 from the Humber Bridge and cycled down the east coast and south coast to Worthing West Sussex.

In May 2022 I set off on Stage 2 from

In July 2022 Stage 3 took me from Newquay to Newport Pembrokeshire.

In September 2022 on Stage 4 I cycled from Newport in Pembrokeshire South Wales to Gretna Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland some 600 miles.

I’ve had a set back in 2023. In March I had a much needed knee replacement from which I had a great rehab but in June I was knocked sideways and landed in hospital for two or so weeks with a very aggressive attack of Cellulitis  and the four weeks on crutches and heavy dressing at home.  The dressings eventually came off and, as I learned to walk again I was able to ride my bike to try and get fit enough to take on Stage 5 as I had hoped to have finished the ride this year.

In September 2023 I cycled Stage 5 from Gretna to Oban about 460 miles in what turned out to be very wet conditions but it was great to get back out on the ride.

In April this year I cycled Stage 6 from Oban to Scourie (25 or so miles from Cape Wrath) in April this year.

Then In June and into July I’m going to cycle The Last 1,000 miles from Scourie back to the Humber Bridge.

I retired in 2018 at the age of 60. It might have been reasonable to think that all of life’s challenges have been faced but Scouting, Rugby and Round Table have shown me that we should always look for the next challenge and that, however daunting,  it’s important to challenge yourself and maybe fail than not to try at all.

Having, in my younger and not so younger days, walked and cycled John O’groats to Lands End and walked and cycled Coast to Coast it seemed to me that I needed to try and cycle round the coast of Britain.

Depending on the overall route the distance involved is between 4,000 and 5,000 miles. I’m hoping to get round in a series of 500 mile/2week and 1000 mile/4 week challenges in the hope and expectation of eventually arriving back at the Humber Bridge from where I set off in September 2021 on stage 1.

You’ll have to bear with me!!

MND is a horrible disease for which there is currently no cure. Sadly we lost Sue’s mum to MND and since then we have taken opportunities to try and raise funds for MNDA to provide care and support and to fund research to try and find a cure.

I’ve played rugby for a lot of my life and have massive admiration for the tireless efforts of sufferers Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow to raise awareness and funds to fight MND.

It would be great if you could make a small donation as I undertake each stage of the Bike Round Britain challenge or else a huge donation as I set off on stage 1.  However you feel you can help that’ll be great.

I have Facebook and Instagram pages with daily updates as I ride each stage in case you would like to follow my progress (or lack of it) and to spread the word.
