I’ve had headaches since I was a teen. I’ve always put it down to my monthly cycle and would take painkillers to manage them.
In 2019 on my way to Greece, an unbearable headache came on which was different to my regular headaches - this lasted 8days. I took various pain killers to manage it but to no avail. I called a GP from abroad and was told to ride it out.
Now back in the UK I was admitted into hospital as the headache immobilised me. I had various CT scans, MRI scans, blood tests and a lumbar puncture. They were unable to find the cause of the pain.
I was discharged but the headache did not subside. I admitted myself into hospital again and after further tests an MRI scan revealed a suspected brain tumour and, following brain surgery at London Charing Cross removed a golf sized tumour, which was confirmed to be medulloblastoma (a rare tumour found in adults). As a result of the surgery a shunt was fitted into my brain to drain excess fluid.
I then went through 7 weeks of intense radiotherapy with severe side effects which included seizures and one round of chemo before the pandemic hit.
The pandemic was a blessing in disguise as I was able to recover from said treatment. I now have 4-monthly scans to monitor my condition along with taking anti-seizure medication to control any seizures I may have.
Although I do have some side effects, I am healthy and I am still here with my husband and dog.
I want to fundraise for the The Brain Tumour Research to help raise awareness of the cause and to give something back to those who have been such a great support to me - my partner, family and friends.
The walk will take place on Saturday 25th September at Hampstead Heath and we will be doing the 4-5 hour circuit trail.
