Story
Since we started our National Honey Show campaign to support Ukrainian Beekeepers we have raised over £17,000. Well done! I’m delighted to see that donations are still coming in. The need for support is just as great as it was a year ago. There are many charities asking for funds to help Ukraine so why support ours? This appeal is a chance for beekeepers worldwide to show their solidarity with Ukrainians. Our next target is £20,000. We will of course be moving that target when we reach it so please keep giving and spread the word to all your friends.
If you are new to this campaign, welcome and please make a donation – however small.
At the time of writing, over 340 beekeepers have donated. Imagine – if every one of the 27,000 members of the British Beekeepers’ Association gave the price of just one jar of honey, we could send £200,000! It’s not just about the money. The number of donors sends a strong message of support to show Ukrainian beekeepers that we are thinking of them. Let’s see if we can get over 500 donors.
The British Beekeepers’ Association has given full support to our campaign and kindly donated the proceedings from an auction at their 2022 Spring Convention.
For now, we have decided that we should support all Ukrainians through the UK Disasters and Emergency Committee (DEC). This is a cooperation between 15 major UK charities. They have careful checks and balances to make sure the money is well spent and directed to where it is most urgently needed.
When the time is right, we will review our tactics to see if there are ways that beekeepers worldwide can directly assist their Ukrainian counterparts.
Thank you and keep giving.
