Story
Heart conditions have been a common theme in my family in the last 6 years and seem to have an uncanny propensity to rear there ugly heads at the worst times, although there is never a good time needless to say.
I have been selected as the representative for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) so am very proud to fly the banner for such an amazing charity.
In 2009 my younger sister Lois was diagnosed with a rare genetic heart condition called Brugada Syndrome. This in short is where ventricular fibrillation (a lethal arrhythmia) in the heart can cause sudden death. Brugada is often a cause for SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) but mentioned in conversation would be relatively unheard of.
My father has also been a sufferer of heart conditions within the last decade; having an irregular heart beat among other small complexities.
In 2014 my grandfather passed away due to a heart attack, on top of this I myself required a precautionary investigatory heart operation due to a black out. This will require another operation in the future. Not only this, but I was diagnosed with a Bi-Cuspid Aortic Value a structural defect that will require an operation.
While this sums up the heart conditions my
family have faced in the last 6 years it barely touches some of the difficulty
my family has had to deal with. Therefore I would love to raise awareness for
all heart conditions but more specifically Brugada Syndrome.
As many of you are aware I am certainly not built for long distance running weighing in at 16st and being 6 foot tall sprinting and short distances have been my forte. Therefore a Marathon is certainly a challenge.
With the support of my family, friends and wonderful fiancé I am seeking to raise over £3000 pounds for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) by running the Edinburgh Marathon all help and support would be greatly appreciated.
Sooooo a massive thank you if you have donated… if not GET DONATING !!!
