Story
In March 2013 I am undertaking to ride 250km in 5 days in Israel - from the mountains to the sea.
More details here: http://www.riding4reform.org/Eng/2013/Pages/Route.asp
I am joining the ride in order to raise money for the Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism (IMPJ). They work to create a fairer society in Israel for all its citizens. They support religious freedom and pluralism, and their synagogues offer a Judaism which is modern, warm and accessible.
The IMPJ also work for social change. They support the "Women of the Wall" and fight for sexual equality and the rights of women. They also work for religious tolerance, and to improve the relations between Israelis and Palestinians. They work for social justice - for example to protect the weakest members of society - including the poor, foreign workers and refugees.
Cycling was something I couldn't do until the age of 28. Several people had tried unsuccessfully to teach me, but I didn't believe I could do it. Finally, a friend in Tel Aviv grew so frustrated that he set me up with a bike teacher and told me that if I could ride by the end of the class, he would pay for the lesson. If not, it was on me. Funnily enough this motivation worked and I could ride a bike for the first time in my life after the class! Unfortunately the next day when we went out to ride in the city, I realised that I didn't know how to stop...something I only learnt after several scrapes and bruises to both my knees and my pride!
Anyone who knows me understands that this ride presents me with a significant physical challenge, and in the months leading up to it I am engaged in a punishing regime to get myself into better shape. Your generous support will give me the motivation to push myself that much harder...
I would be very grateful for your support!
