On Sunday 16th September 2012 I will be running my third BUPA Great North Run. This year I am raising money for Barnardos.

As you will I know I work in the Magistrates' Courts in Northumbria dealing with criminal and childcare work. Barnardo's works closely with many of the young people who pass through our courts doors everyday. Most of these young people have led troubled and difficult lives. Barnardo's tries to give these young people a chance at life. Barnardo's has great projects all over the UK.

Barnardo's transforms the lives of vulnerable children across the UK through the work of its projects, campaigning and research expertise.

Barnado's believes it can bring out the best in every child whether the issue is child poverty, sexual exploitation, disability or domestic violence.

As one of the UK's leading children's charities, Barnardo's works directly with over 190,000 children, young people and their families every year. It runs over 800 vital projects across the UK, including counselling for children who have been abused, fostering and adoption services, vocational training and disability inclusion groups.

Every Barnardo's project is different but each believes in the potential in every child and young person, no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through.
