Story
Hello my friends,
For those of you that falsely believe that I consume a little more than my fair share of alcohol (some may say more than your average small country…), the breaking news is that for 3 and a half months I will be giving it up! You will either think I have totally lost the plot with this off-the-wall crazy idea, or potentially I have a very good reason for doing it...thankfully it’s the latter!
As most of you will know, I do have my personal reasons for going away for a while and that this is something that I have had my heart set on for some time. I’m really over the moon to have been accepted onto the Raleigh expedition to Borneo In January for 3 months as a Project Manager.
Before I go into detail on what it is I’m actually doing, where your kind donations will be going, I am conscious that there are lots of people out there with Just giving pages for various great causes...so...to make my request slightly different I’m doing a razzle-dazzle raffle! If you sponsor me £10.00 or more than you will be entered into a PRIZE DRAW to win one of two incredible prizes!
1st Prize - A Bottle of Champagne for 2 at Vertigo - Tower 42
http://www.vertigo42.co.uk/index.php
2nd Prize - A Bottle of Jagermeister! (Maybe a can of red bull too ;))
I will be revealing the winners on 11th January
Onto the important and more serious stuff:
What is Raleigh?
Without copying and pasting, Raleigh is a Youth and Education Charity and the money I raise will be directly contributing to making a tangible and long term difference, not only to the young people working with me on the projects but the local communities in Borneo. What’s exciting for me is that I will be able to see exactly how the money raised has made a difference first hand.
I will be a Volunteer Project Manager on at least 2 different project sites working with young people from all over the world. 20 per cent of the participants are from the host country, Borneo, and 20 per cent are from disadvantaged backgrounds in the UK. The rest are GAP YAAARRS!!!
The types of projects I will be working on are either community-based or environmental. For example, building a much needed medical centre in a local village. Raleigh works with local NGOs and charities to identify what Raleigh can do to help with sustainable development in each area.
Why won’t you be drinking?
There is a Zero Alcohol policy (it is enforced) and for those that know me well they will realise that this in itself is a challenge for me; I will be working really hard: this is not party time for Wardy! It will be an amazing experience and by doing my part in all this good it will be a great opportunity for me to make a real difference in the world.
So please sponsor me J The target is steep; any amount you can spare would be great. Obviously over £10.00 gives you the chance to win a prize!!
I will be closing my page on 10th January so would be REALLY grateful if you could sponsor me soon!!
Thanks loads xxx
Wardy
