Story
Thanks for your support with my London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
As a survivor of a physically and mentally abusive relationship in 2018, I am determined to do as much as I can to support other women (and children) who have also experienced domestic violence.
According to the Office for National Statistics, one in four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Two women are killed each week by a current or former partner in England and Wales. These are shocking statistics - something needs to change.
Since the start of the pandemic, there has been an almost 80% rise in calls being made to Refuge. In March this year, police were making an average of 100 arrests every day for domestic abuse related crimes - this sudden increase is exactly why funds, and awareness, need to be raised.
Funds raised will provide new ways for victims to access help through supermarkets and pharmacies, outreach visits to known vulnerable households, support for children, and a new guarantee of safe housing for anyone needing to leave their home during lockdown because of abuse.
I appreciate any support with donations, or training advice for the ‘short’ run I will be completing in October 2020! Thank you all, your generosity and kindness is exactly what spurs me on to keep going! 💞
