Prostate cancer – the facts
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland found just below the bladder. The gland’s main jobs are to support the neck of the bladder and to make some of the fluid of semen.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It can develop when cells in the prostate gland start to grow in an uncontrolled way.
37,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
10,000 men in the UK die of prostate cancer every year – that’s one man an hour.
African Caribbean men are almost three times as likely to develop prostate cancer as white men of the same age.
How your fundraising will help
The money you donate will help to support more men with prostate cancer and their families. It will also help research for improved diagnosis and better treatments for prostate cancer.
£100 could pay for a specialist nurse to answer four calls to the confidential Helpline from concerned men and their families.
£500 could pay for 55 Tool Kits – a comprehensive, tailored information pack for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
£1,000 could fund the recruitment, training and activity of a support and guidance volunteer for one year.
£2,000 could support two week’s worth of research into treating advanced prostate cancer.
So please sponsor us now!
You can also donate by cheque payable to The Prostate Cancer Charity and we will forward it on.
