2020 was supposed to be the year I celebrated getting
married, and my 60th birthday on the 25th December. Many plans were made
but Covid put paid to getting married and celebrating my big birthday.
I have decided to turn a negative into a positive and take
on a challenge to raise funds for jersey Alzheimer's Association in memory of
my late mother, who lived with Vascular Dementia.
I will do my own version of a Triathlon- 60 Second swim
followed by 60 minute cycle, finishing with a 60 minute walk.
In addition to my Boxing Day Triathlon I have decided to carry on challenging myself physically going into 2021 by signing up for the JAA Walk 50 Miles in January and paid the registration fee.
I will carry on raising money for this great Charity and when I do eventually get to celebrate my Big 60 in a more normal manner in 2021 by hiring a venue and throwing a party, I will have my JAA Collecting Bucket to take any donations in lieu of party presents.
As you can imagine 2020 has been especially difficult for
the people JAA work with who have struggled on so many levels and in so many
ways. Dementia is widely accepted as one of the great health crises of the 21st
century and affects people of all ages. That could be your friends and family,
your colleagues and staff or your customers and clients.
Over recent months the JAA Team have found new ways to
support the Community but need your help and support to continue to do
so. In 2021, the cost of running JAA will be over £350K. This means each
year they need to raise a huge amount of money just to keep offering what they
do today, let alone develop new services that reach out even further.
Mum loved attending the weekly Musical Memories sessions and
the Saturday Club. I personally received great support from the various Carer
Support activities and training run by JAA.
Please support me in my Challenge to support the Charity
that supported my mum; Jeanne and myself as her Carer through an incredibly
challenging time in our lives.
