Canvey Island Seawall Buggy Walk · 27 March 2015

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Take part in World Autism Awareness Week by joining us in a Buggy Walk around Canvey Island seawall on Friday 27th March. All donations go to the National Autistic Society.

For full details, email: carobertsseo@gmail.com or visit my Facebook event page, Seawall Buggy Walk.

The walk is easy - the challenge is organising this event in under 20 days! I WILL DO IT!

Why a Buggy Walk? The National Autistic Society is child-focused and I walk with my buggy and child every day, so this idea is right up my street. I had so much interest from friends and family who wanted to join me, that I thought I'd make it an open invitation.

Why this charity? The NAS is the UK's leading charity for autism, providing information, support  and pioneering services.

Over the past year I have watched in awe while good friends of mine adapted their lives so well when they learned their young son has Autism Spectrum Disorder. They research and attend special sensory classes, seminars and courses, take their son to one-on-one consultations, study ASD, travel across Essex to use specially adapted facilities, hire appropriate sensory equipment, and together they have developed a greater understanding of his world. Not everyone is aware of the issues that children with ASD and their families face every day, but that's often true of anything until you experience the situation yourself. Patience, understanding, courage and support, has helped my friends turn their lives around. Wouldn't it be great to raise some awareness, some patience and understanding? Wouldn't it be great to know more about the support and facilities that are locally available for the families who need it?
