Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On October 10th 2019 my mum was diagnosed with throat cancer, without any action there was very little chance of survival. She underwent severe surgery & was in hospital for 7weeks recovering. After a very intrusive & successful procedure she came out and was on ICU it was only one day later she was onto normal ward. Everyone has remarked at the strength & character that my mum has shown she hasn't let this keep her down.

It's no surprise I dye my hair & I was asked by the girls who do it, to let me let them loose at it. So I decided to ask to raise money and meet a target then I'll let them do whatever they fancy. I've heard unicorn hair or pink. Their imaginations are going wild. So decided to use that to raise support for the NALC any amount will be truly welcomed. Also thought up and booked is a tandem skydive, it was booked up for April but COVID19 put a stop to that & it was rescheduled and confirmed for 15th of August. So in a couple of weeks time I'll be getting ready to jump out a plane at 10,000ft to hopefully help raise further funds for a charity so dependant on generosity & donations from the public.

It isn't until you're affected by this or someone close to you when you realise how little you're unaware of what's next. Like whose out there to help (what clubs, charities or organisations), there's also what can I do to help my mum?. Who will now live with this for the rest of her life (what's set up in the way of emergency services etc) or what do I need to be aware of.

The National Association of Laryngectomee Clubs offer support, education & communication. They've set up a forum for laryngectomees up and down the UK with 60 clubs  to meet & discuss the ways they adapted to living with this, the affects it has on their lives and everything in between to help anyone else whose gone through this or yet to have the procedure done. Everyone's been there or going to go through it so there is no judging and just lots of friendly offers for a chat or helpful pieces advice through someone's own personal experience.

TRULY FOR EVERY PENNY YOU GIVE I WANT TO SAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. IT IS APPRECIATED AND I'M SURE IT'LL GO A LONG WAY FOR THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LARYNGECTOMEES CLUB

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
