Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It seemed a good idea in January, when August was but a distant dot in the calendar. A long (ish) walk up a large(ish) hill in Africa with a couple of friends - what better way to spend the summer holidays?
Now we've seen the official numbers - 45% of attempts fail, it claims more than 10 lives a year etc etc, we're not sure its the best idea we've ever had. But we are a determined (and blindly stubborn) group, so on August 11th, myself and 2 friends, Jerome and Jesus (I'll probably use HIS name a fair bit) will begin our attempt to climb to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
I feel that if I'm going to suffer, I should at least suffer for a cause. So I am climbing also to raise money for a charity that I have supported for a while, one that gives opportunities that I took for granted, to people not so fortunate, St Mungo's for the homeless in London. This is a no pressure sell; anything I raise is better than nothing, and if you can't afford to give or simply don't want to, that's ok. Times are tough, I know that. However, we are creating a video diary of the trip, and we'll send that to sponsors, so if you want to see me barf into my hat, you'll have to pay up.
Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
