We rescue, reunite and rehome dogs and cats to care for them until new homes are found

Story

It costs around £50,000 every day to care for the animals across their three centres. Now more than ever, they need our support to care for the thousands of animals who arrive at the gates every year.

From the moment Battersea welcomed their first stray dog in 1860 they have been placing animals at the centre of everything they do. More than three million animals later, they're still working hard to achieve their vision that every dog and cat should live in a home where they are treated with love, care and respect.

We  have rescued several dogs in the past, and are doing this walk in memory of Jessie, who we rescued when she was just over 6 months old. She had an horrific start in life and had difficulty trusting people, especially men. When my father and brother came home she would run into the conservatory and hide in her crate. It took almost two years for her to  feel comfortable around them. She remained fearful of new people who came to the house and would urinate in fear. Jessie lived to be16 years old and became very loyal to all the members of the family. But most of all we gave her a loving home and she gave us unconditional love.

We rescued Kizzy in May  2017, she will be taking part in the walk with us. She was 7 months old and had never been out for a walk on a leash, everything scared her. But with a lot of patience she became a confident little dog. Kizzy did not know how to play with toys and was scared to run around with other dogs. Last year we learned that Kizzy has Syringohydromyelia and is now on pain medication for life. Despite her condition she is happy and enjoying life with us and her younger sister Peppa. Both who are very spoilt and well cared for.

Therefore, we have walked 8.32 miles in aid to raise money for Battersea Dogs and Cats home. Please help and donate to a good cause. Please feel free to click on the gallery and take a look at some pictures from the challenge 🐕😊 x
