Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm planning on running a few marathons this year to raise money for the SMA trust.

So far I've signed up for Paris in April and hope to add the 1st ever Sunderland marathon to this as soon as it's announced.  Expected to be a few weeks after the Paris one!

I've got a few months before the Stockholm Jubilee Marathon on 14th of July. A nice little run commemorating the 1912 Olympic marathon.  The race will start on the track of the historic 1912 Olympic Stadium and follow the same route used for the 1912 Olympic Games where only 35 of the 69 who started, completed the race!  We’re running in traditional running gear, bar trainers so look out for photos of me in a big knotted hankerchief and cotton running vest.

Unlike previous marathons I've run I do intend to train for these, famous last words.

You can follow my training here:

SMA is a genetic disease. It is a leading genetic killer of infants and toddlers.  My friend Jonny's beautiful son David has unfortunately been diagnosed with SMA.

SMA is currently incurable and often fatal

1 in every 6,000 births is affected by SMA

1 in every 40 people is a carrier of the gene that causes SMA

SMA affects motor neurons in the spinal cord. This results in muscular weakness, leading to possible severe disability and the possibility of premature death
