Before the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda, Vrne was married with 5 children. All her children and her husband were killed during the genocide and she was the lone survivor. She has experienced a lot of trauma, not only due to the loss of her entire family, but she was also raped by many men during the genocide while she was tied up. Fortunately, she was not infected with HIV Aids.
She lives with her trauma despite meeting many counsellors. She cries a lot but she also likes being with people, interacting and getting involved in the community.
Vrne was allocated a plot of land by Solace Ministries charity. The home she built is a mud hut which unfortunately is not safe to live in. She cannot afford to build a new and safe home, which will cost RWF 6,000,000 (£4,400 GBP).
She was moved into a safe home in May of this year (2021) and her rent and upkeep is being sponsored by a donor of the charity while we fundraise to build Vrne a new home on her own plot of land.
