Story
Thank you for taking the time to help me making a difference.
Piracy and extremism is an ever present problem that continues to not only affect the lives of seafarers around the world, but also the people in East Africa.
Adeso is implementing projects in East Africa/Somalia that address the root causes of piracy and seeks to reduce the appeal of piracy and extremism.
One of these projects is a coastal habitat restoration and sustainable fisheries project. Adeso has established a mangrove restoration and date palm nursery program to stabilize the coastal eco system, and train the people in coastal fishing communities in sustainable fishing and coastal fisheries management, all the while addressing the root causes of piracy. The project seeks to deliver a practical community-level response to illegal fishing and to tackle the root causes of piracy. It is a way to improve food security, livelihoods and governance, while at the same time reducing the appeal of piracy and extremism.
I have chosen to support this project because these efforts do not only benefit East Africa/Somalia, but they also stimulate a safer ocean for the benefit of international trade, shipping and seafarers.
