Story

Hi everyone and thank you so much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

My little brother Alex passed away in July, just two days after his 30 birthday following a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. I know I will never come to terms with why this happened to Alex but I do know that I have to do my bit to try and stop this from happening to others – I also know that Alex, with his enormous caring heart and selfless nature would want me to be doing everything I can.

One thing I know for sure is that I was truly blessed to have had the privilege of calling Alex my brother, never have I known anyone with such a gentle and kind nature and I am so proud of the man he became. His brilliantly ridiculous sense of humour, massive grin and adorable dimples touched the hearts of so many people. His quiet inner confidence saw him achieve so many things in his life - including his childhood dream of becoming a pilot and travelling the world.  But in my eyes Alex’s greatest achievement was his incredible capacity for love and care towards everyone he knew – and this was reflected in the outpouring of love and support by hundreds of his incredible friends and family when things got tough.

As many of you know, Alex’s love of airplanes did not rub of on me in the slightest! He was constantly baffled as to why I had what he considered to be a completely ridiculous phobia! Not long after Alex was diagnosed we had a conversation – he would face his disease head on and fight like hell and I would face my fear and jump out of a plane with him!

Alex kept his part of the bargain by being the bravest and most determined person I will ever know…. so I’m keeping my part of the bargain too. As well as running the London 10K for Pancreatic Cancer in May, in August I’m taking the biggest leap of my life and jumping out of plane with the aim of raising much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer.

Despite having the lowest life expectancy of all the common cancers with only 3% of patients surviving 5 years or more, Pancreatic Cancer gets less than 1% of all cancer research expenditure per year. This means that the most fierce and unrelenting of all cancers has seen no improvement in its long-term survival rate over the last 40 years. Alex did everything he could to fight his cancer, he stayed strong and positive and he battled it until the very end with courage, dignity and determination but the odds were stacked against him from the start  and this just has to change. So together let’s pick up the fight where Alex left off and work towards flipping those odds in the future.  Every penny I raise will go towards research for this vicious disease …. so any donation, big or small is welcomed and greatly appreciated J

Alex…. my incredibly brave little bro, my inspiration, my friend… I miss you every moment of every day and I will carry you in my heart forever – this one’s for you x

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
