Story
Short version:
Please help me raise money for Bowel Cancer UK to help them save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.
I will be taking part in the Great North Run half-marathon (13.1 miles) in Newcastle on 15th September, in memory of my Uncle Pat.
Long version:
On my birthday last year I gave up alcohol for a year to raise money for Charity: Water so they could secure clean water for people in Rwanda who desperately needed it.
Thanks to the kind donations of friends and family, we raised $1,525, meaning 23 people got access to clean water. I even edged into the top 30 of the 163 fundraisers who attended WDS2012 in Portland.
Giving up booze has meant I've had extra time and energy to devote to getting fitter and healthier. Mel and I ran the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in April, and now, with less than a month to go before I can once again savour a nice cold beer, we're heading to Newcastle for the Great North Run. However, I need to raise money to secure my place.
My chosen charity this year is Bowel Cancer UK, in memory of my wonderful Uncle Pat who made a point of looking out for me and welcoming me into his family when I moved to Ireland at age 11, but who we sadly lost to the disease well before his time.
If I can raise £325 for the charity this year, I will be able to run my 2nd half-marathon of the year, pay tribute to Pat and help Bowel Cancer UK to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.
By completing the challenge of running 13.1 miles my intention is also to firmly stick it to cancer in all its forms.
Your donations are much appreciated - again, I would prefer a donation than a birthday present this year.
Thanks
Milo
