Story

With the up coming 2012 Olympics the nation will back our most able bodied Olympians, less air time will be given to our competitive paralympians (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/12/bbc-criticised-coverage-winter-paralympics). What's more many youngsters with physical impairments are never given the opportunity to compete in athletics, largely due to a lack of government funding, coupled with a lack of hosted activities for disabled people at government sports centres. One can only postulate that with the current governments "slash and burn" cuts to the welfare state the situation can only get worse.

Why should we reduce the equality of those disabled individuals in our society, they have a right to compete. And does denying them that right crush both there self confidence and independence? Our British paralympians are showing phenomenal achievements:

For these reasons, this Sunday 19 September, I will be running the great north run for Get kids going (http://www.getkidsgoing.com/). This is Sabastian Coe's charity which provides sports mobility for youngsters with physical disabilities which they have either had from birth or sustained from injury. This equipment allows them to exercise their faculties to the best of their ability.

I am also in discussions with the Jane the Chief Exec at the Charity to see if she can pledge support for the Childrens Saturday club which I work at (http://www.edward-lloyd-trust.co.uk/index.php/services/full/saturday_club/). A club partially funded by BBC children in Need. The Edward Lloyd trust was set up in the 80's. After John Edward Lloyd the founder of the now global Lloyds insurers floated the company on the London Stock exchange, with the proceeds he set up the charity.

It would mean allot if you donated, any amount helps, it doesn't matter how big or small the donation is, its for a good cause. Thanks for the time...

Mike :)

PS
