Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm going to walk 125km from Gravesend to Eastbourne from the 22nd - 25th March in recognition of the 125 years of care and support that the College has given to thousands of frail, elderly and vulnerable Anglicans. I myself have seen the difference that the College can make to the health and well-being of people in need, and that is worth supporting.

The College was set up as a response to high levels of poverty among elderly Clergy and returning Missionaries in the late Victorian period that saw many forced to live on the streets or in the Workhouse. It is incredible to realise that 125 years later, Clerical poverty is still a major issue and that for some of our Residents, the College is still the provider of last resort. It is needed as much today as it ever was, and demand seems set to increase.

The challenge is to safeguard the College for the benefit of future generations. To do that it needs both funds and a pool of regular, reliable supporters. Hopefully, me doing this 125km walk across what is perhaps one of the last remaining relatively remote parts of the south-east will, in addition to raising money now, will show everyone that they can do something to help the College. It doesn't have to be a sponsored walk, of course. Just something that you can do easily to raise some money from family, friends and colleagues, from your Church, or from your local community. So if you don't fancy running a marathon, perhaps you might like to organise a coffee morning, a garden party, a good old-fashioned sale of works, or jump out of an aeroplane, or organise a charity fashion show to benefit the College. The list of possibilities is endless, so the hope is that in addition to raising some money now, this sponsored walk will inspire and motivate others to go that extra mile for the College. It may also help bring in some new supporters, which is essential for the long-term.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. In keeping with the "125" theme, we are suggesting that supporters show solidarity with the College by reflecting 125 in their giving, if you can, by making every £1 you give £1.25 instead, so every £10 becomes £12.50, every £100 becomes £125, every £1,000 becomes £1,250. That way, you'll be recognising the College's 125 years of achievement at the forefront of care for elderly Anglicans, while giving a huge boost towards a more secure future.

Thank you.
