Story
This June I'm cycling from Geneva to Cannes as part of the 17th FireFlies tour. We'll be covering 1,000km and climbing over 28,512 meters in just 8 days, to raise money for the cancer research charity Bloodwise.
I'm doing this for the simple reason that people I care deeply about have been affected by cancer and I want to do something to help.
1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed with cancer and it is thought that understanding blood cancers (which are easier to extract, isolate and test) is the path to finding a cure for all forms of this disease.
The distances involved are *way outside* anything I've ever attempted before. I'll need to consume 7,000 calories each day to help me pedal my way up and over 18 alpine mountains. Veteran FireFlies have recounted stories of horizontal sleet-storms, badly timed punctures, baking hot days, impassable roads but also of breath-taking views and incredible camaraderie.
Inspired by the courage it takes to fight cancer the FireFlies motto is "For Those Who Suffer We Ride".
This excellent film by The Mill+ sums it all up very neatly.
