Story
In 2006 my wife, Carol, was diagnosed with a rare liver condition, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, PSC.
PSC is an immune-mediated disease of the bile ducts with no known medical treatment. It's referred to as 'the last black box in hepatology' because there is so much that the specialist doctors and researchers don't yet understand about this complex condition. People with PSC urgently need a treatment that works.
Carol has been very lucky to have had very few symptoms so far but this is sadly not usually the case. People with PSC have to deal with debilitating symptoms, constant and serious bacterial infections and in a lot of cases require liver transplant, which unfortunately isn't always a cure for this horrible condition. Many sufferers never receive treatment that works and sadly many PSC sufferers lives are shortened by this disease.
As a family, we live in hope that one day a cure will be found, but without the help of all the fundraisers and charitable donations from people like you, this would be very difficult. We are beyond grateful for your support and thank you for reading this short story.
