Story
I’m running the Marathon des Sables with a team from Londons Air Ambulance.
I Have work for Londons Air Ambulance as a fire fighter
since 2006, my role involves covering the helicopter taking off and landing on
the Royal London Hospital, assisting with patient off loads and manning the ops
room when the helicopter is out on a mission.
I’m competing in the crazy event to help raise awareness and
funds for Londons Air Ambulance, we operate 365 days a year 24 hours a day, an average
mission costs £1,700 so your support could potentially help save a life, we
average 6 missions in a 24 hours this is split between the aircraft during the
day and response car at night.
We have put together a team which include members of the
service: The CEO, Pilot, Paramedic, Doctors and fire crew we also have an ex
Patient and the sister of an ex patient.
Have I run a marathon before? Of course not but then again I do like a
challenge, I have done tough mudder and other obstacle events but when the
opportunity to take part in marathon des sables ‘The toughest foot race on
earth’ (Discovery Channel). In six days we will cover 156 miles though endless dunes,
over rocky jebles and across white hot salt plains.
