My friend Adam challenged me, at the beginning of January, to give up drinking until 1st March. If I lasted he said he would donate 25 pounds to a charity of my choice. However, for every drink I had he would take off a pound. I accepted this challenge and asked if anyone else wanted to donate to a brilliant charity. My friends pledged 280 pounds if I succeeded.
I have managed to make it from 3rd January (the challenge was suggested on 2nd Jan and I was already sipping a glass of wine that day) having participated in many activities that would normally go very nicely with a glass of wine:
A couple of steak restaurants (steak without red wine? Surely illegal?)
Birthday celebrations (with the Raggy Dolls - a group of people that the word carnage was invented for)
Book club (where I was offered a FREE glass of wine and with a group of ladies that when asked "just one more bottle?" The answer is always yes!)
Random pub nights (with the same aforementioned ladies)
Tasting menus WITH pairing wines at Michelin starred restaurants (the wines all smelt AMAZING)
Music quiz (always a messy night)
A first date (probably not giving a fair interpretation of what I'm really like to be fair)
Going to see live music (again a free glass of wine was offered!)
And just the random moments where we are a bit of a loose end... all done. Without a drop of alcohol passing my lips!
I would like to say I've enjoyed the experience but I would be lying.
However, it was a good challenge and for a fantastic charity - The Erb's Palsy Group. So donate please!!
Cheers!
