So here goes with the personal bit - Last summer whilst training for my first half marathon, my husband Kev lost his lovely mum Pam. After Pam's passing I spent much more time with my father in law Alf and chatted about how my training was getting on and how many weeks or days it was till Race Day and bless him he was very interested and have since been told a little bit proud of me.

Sadly and totally unexpected just 6 days before the race Alf was also taken from us and after a hectic week of trying to support Kev and the rest of my family, my training came to a halt and I was about to throw in the towel.

But eventually we decided with bags of support from Kev, who promised to still be there at the finishing line to go for it and I managed to complete it in 2hours 15 mins. It was one of the most emotional things I have ever done and we both sobbed at the finish line - a week later my medal went in Alf's hand to keep him company.

This September I will run 2 half marathons 2 weeks apart and am hoping for a much happier occasion and the chance to raise money for my favourite charity Treetops Hospice who cared for a family member of ours many years ago.
