Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am aiming to raise £800 for CliC Sargent.  This would pay for 32 hours of a Clic Sargent Nurse's time, so they can coordinate care for a child, maximising the amount of time they spend at home.  Time when you have cancer to be normal is so precious for a family, and this is a part of Clic's work that really resonates with my story.

A little about me

I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma when I was 16, just after finishing my GCSEs and underwent 6 months of chemotherapy.

To be honest, I was really lucky with my treatment and after 6 months I had competed the chemo with very few hiccoughs.  I was treated at Musgrove in Taunton, and very luckily was treated on the children's ward rather than on an adult ward.

At Taunton, I had two amazing CLIC Sargent nurses who looked after me alongside the fantastic team at the hospital.  Gillian and Andre would make the journey out to my home or school in rural Dorset to take my weekly bloods.  What this gave me and my family was the chance to continue with a bit of normality and gave us the gift of time.  Going in for bloods would have meant a whole day out of school, and leaving my brother and sisters.

Gillian and Andre gave me a kick up the backside when I was down, and they are just part of the services that CLIC can provide for young people and their families dealing with cancer.

I continue to support CLIC as a thank you for what they did for me, and to ensure that they continue to support others like me.

Celebrating 15 years in remission is amazing, and I feel truly lucky. To celebrate 10 years in remission I ran the Reading Half marathon, so this challenge needed to be one step up!  I also wanted to do something that others could join me on, running is not everyone's cup of tea!

I am gathering a team of people to walk with me, and my whole family is walking at least 23k of the way with me.  I have some great friends also walking and I am loving the support!

I also have a website, bloggy thing and Instagram to keep you up to date on my training and the actual event on the August bank Holiday 2017!

Please check out my website where I am keeping my supporters up to date with my progress!
