As many of you will know in March this year my mum got admitted to hospital with severe, acute pancreatitis.  This is a disease I knew nothing about but it came close to taking my mum away.  Luckily thanks to an amazing team of doctors and nurses (and my mum's stubbornness!) she has survived and after 98 days in hospital she is finally home!  

At the moment, there is no specific medicine that can stop the inflammation in acute pancreatitis. Further research into all aspects of acute pancreatitis is desperately needed. Many research scientists, usually working with clinical specialists in acute pancreatitis are working hard to understand how pancreatitis can cause such severe whole-body inflammation, and are trying many different new approaches to develop new medicines. Although there are promising early-stage leads, no medicines have yet reached everyday use in the clinic which can switch off the inflammation.  

I want to raise money for Guts UK to help fund this much needed research.  As my mum spent 98 days in hospital, I am going to walk/run/cycle 9.8 miles a day for 98 days (that's a total of 960 miles!).  My 7 year old son, Noah, is also going to do 98 skips (with a rope) a day for 98 days.
