Story
Whilst 2020 was a difficult year for everybody, undoubtedly the most difficult moment for us was when we received the terrible news that our dear friend Michael Seres had so sadly passed away at just 51 years old.
Not a day goes by when we don’t think about Michael, and as a small group of very close friends, we wanted to do something to honour his memory, whilst at the same time use that opportunity to bring happiness into the lives of others.
Michael was involved in several different charities throughout his lifetime that were connected to the health issues that he faced, but outside of that he always had deep concern about the next generation, and spent many years working tirelessly to ensure that the children and youth in his own community of Radlett had activities and programmes to keep them occupied.
This led to being involved in bringing the first Tribe youth leaders to the Radlett community and from there he got further involved in the programmes that Tribe lead, with his own 3 children being amongst the many that have enjoyed the weekly activities and summer camps and tours organised by Tribe.
Sadly not every family has sufficient funds to be able to send their children on these wonderful summer programmes, and we’re sure that Michael would be extremely proud if he knew that young people from low income families were now able to go on those camps, or summer tours, thanks to a fund opened in his memory.
With that in mind, we’ll be spending the day that would have been Michael’s 52nd birthday (23rd March 2021), walking from his home in Radlett to his “spiritual home” of Loftus Road, the home of his beloved QPR, and we would love to receive as much sponsorship as possible for that walk which will go to Tribe’s newly founded Michael Seres Memorial Fund, dedicated to fund camps and tours for those unable to fund it themselves.
The list below are the programmes that Tribe run, for which bursaries are available, and anything you can donate will go towards sending children and youth on one of these wonderful experiences (the Bursary Fund will be administered internally by the Chesed Department of the United Synagogue, and below is a guide to the cost of each programme based on last year's prices):
Camp Gad Year 5 : £359
Camp Zev Year 6: £539
Camp Barak Year 7: £849
Camp Sufa/ Kerach Year 8 & 9: £849
Israel Tour Year 11: £3,299 members, £3,499 non-members
Poland Trip Year 12: £799 members, £899 non members
Jerusalem L2L Year 9 & 10: members early bird £799, members £999, non-members £1,299.
Any amount, however large or small, will be a wonderful way to help us honour Michael’s memory.
Thank you!
