Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 23rd September I will be embarking on my biggest adventure to date, a self-supported 170 mile run through the Grand Canyon in one of American remotest locations. The race starts near to Kanab in Utah at the rim of the Grand Canyon and finishes at the summit of the Grand Staircase one of the world’s most iconic geological formations. The final day sees an ascent of 8,600 ft in just 7.7 miles. Being “self supported” means I will be carrying all of my 7 days of food, sleeping bag and medical equipment on my back for the entire run.
Training has been pretty tough with significant weekend mileage but with the fantastic summer we have it’s allowed me to get a good few miles in the hot sunshine developing a great runners tan.
I wasn’t going to raise any charity sponsorship for this as everyone gave so generously when I ran the Sahara in the MDS last year and I don’t like going “back to the watering hole” but on reflection, really feel it would be remiss of me not to set up a page and try and raise the odd pound or two for a good cause. Selfishly, when the going gets tough knowing that people have donated makes those dark moments when you feel battered and broken it really helps refocus the mind and gives the inspiration to take another step, or if you can’t run, walk. If you can’t walk, crawl. If you can’t crawl, just keep going forward as said by Dean Karnazes.
The past 12 months has really highlighted the devastation of brain cancer with family and close friends losing those close to them by this awful disease and the speed at which it can be all consuming. To that end I have decided to set up a just giving page raising a small amount to help the charity. Anything donated to this cause would be greatly appreciated .
