Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
So, after trying to cook myself in the heat cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia earlier this year, I am now planning to freeze on a high altitude trek to Everest Base Camp in March 2018......
Clearly the cycling thing wasn't challenging enough (!) This one, however, is listed as 'extreme' and chances of life threatening illnesses are very high, including some of my favourites such as : Pulminory edema, Cerebral edema, Hypoxia, to name but a few. Add to that the danger of avalanches, earthquakes and flying into Lukla, one of the most dangerous airports in the World and it makes for an exciting trip.
But seriously, this will be a long trek at high altitude, covering 120km over 12 consecutive days. Trekking days will be long and we will be tackling some difficult terrain. The distance covered will be doubly hard due to the very high altitude, steep inclines and reduced level of oxygen available. The highest point of the trek will be 5,545m, tackling the summit of Kala Patthar, above EBC. That's more than 4 times the height of Ben Nevis....
On the plus side, scenery should be fantastic and I'll be sure to keep this page updated with progress along the way.
