Story

Frank Bradley, known to many as Frankie, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday 22nd of October 2020.  Frankie was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be greatly missed by all of those who were lucky enough to spend some time with him during his 94 years of life.

He lost his beloved wife, Jeannie, less than 6 months earlier.  Due to the restrictions around COVID-19 neither Frankie nor the family were able to be with her in hospital in the last weeks of her life.  The impact of being separated from Jeannie at the end of her life  strengthened Frankie’s resolve to make sure that, if it could be achieved, he would spend his own last weeks and months at home with friends and family.

He was able to achieve this thanks in large part to the commitment and services of the NHS doctors of the Golden Brook surgery in Long Eaton, the dedicated support of the NHS District Nurses and their teams as well as the incredible care of the many members of the NHS Erewash Care Team who provided Frankie and the family with remarkable help and good humour in the last weeks of his life.  Every individual who has been part of the support given by these NHS teams has earned the admiration and gratitude of Frankie’s family and friends.  They are, in this respect as in so many others, true NHS heroes.

In addition to this outstanding service from the NHS there was also invaluable and crucial support for Frankie and the family from both Treetops Hospice and from Marie Curie.  Their support made the difference that enabled Frankie to have the care and support, 24/7, that meant his last days were dignified and comfortable and, so importantly, at home.  They made it possible for his family and friends to have the chance to share many precious moments with him at home in his last days.

The work of Treetops Hospice and Marie Curie in supporting Frankie and the family has been extensive, invaluable and free of charge.  These services rely on funding from charitable donations.  In this context we would ask those who wish to remember Frankie to consider making a donation to Treetops or to Marie Curie so that they are able to continue providing these crucial services for other families in the future.

If you wish to donate to Treetops Hospice Care you can donate here on Frankie’s memorial page – just click on the ‘donate’ button.  All donations will go directly to Treetops.

Alternatively, if you prefer to donate to Marie Curie, you can donate directly at their website: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/donate

On behalf of Frankie’s family, thank you for any donations and thanks again to the NHS teams, to Treetops Hospice and to Marie Curie.
