Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many thanks to all my friends and supporters who joined me On Saturday 8th August on a fabulous walk across Morecambe Bay. This time the sun shone brightly and the conditions could not have been better. The wade across the fast flowing Kent was a pleasure with balmy water temperature and a gentle warm breeze. Due to changes in the channel the walk was slightly longer, approximately 8.5 miles with the leaders crossing the finish line 4 hours 15 minutes after the start. I limped home amongst the stragglers but my broken leg enjoyed the challenge and definitely be fitted from the hydrotherapy it received along the way!
Lots of people have been asking if it is going to become an annual event in the Bridge2Aid charity calendar....well, maybe....what do you all think?
A little about the DVP programme:
Last October I joined a dental volunteer programme in Tanzania organised by Bride2Aid. A team of 6 dentists and 4 nurses spent two weeks training local clinical officers (like a district nurse) to examine, diagnose and offer simple safe pain relief by teaching them how to extract teeth safely using anaesthetic and correct techniques. We trained six officers, each of whom looks after a rural clinic with a population of between 8-10,000 people. The experience was very rewarding and made me realise what a worthwhile and sustainable programme Bridge2Aid have developed, and with continued support they plan to roll out programmes in other East African countries. So far more than 3.5 million Tanzanians now have access to safe dental pain relief.
