Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am preparing to run the VENICE MARATHON on October 23rd of this year. I would like all sponsorship to go to the HOSPICE OF SAINT FRANCIS in Berkhamsted. The Hospice is an attractive, spacious and relaxing environment, with beautiful rooms and gardens, set in peaceful countryside overlooking Northchurch in Hertfordshire. It provides care, comfort and support  for adults with life-limiting illnesses, such as Stephanie, the 22 year old daughter of my dear ex-colleagues, who last year spent her last days at the Hospice, after suffering with a brain tumour. I was struck by how welcoming and friendly the staff were, and although there are a number of paid employees, there are approximately 1000 people who work there as volunteers. There is an In-patient Unit with 14 available beds, and a Day Hospice which opens 2 days a week. There are also specialist Home Care Nurses, who work with patients in their homes. Each of these departments are in need of more funding. Altogether, it takes £3.6 million each year to run the organisation, and 60% of this money comes from donations and fundraising activities such as mine. The Hospice could not offer the services they provide without the help of the community.

Please take a few minutes to fill in the form on my page.
