I am raising money to fund my dental volunteer trip to Tanzania with Bridge2Aid in October 2014.  As part of this trip I will be working in remote rural clinics working with a team of 7 dentists and 4 nurses to develop the skills of Health Workers from the area and helping to deliver basic dental services to the community. Generally, 6 Health Workers are trained during each programme. This is an opportunity to change the lives of thousands of people who currently suffer from debilitating dental pain with no hope of treatment.  Taking part in a dental volunteer programme is something I have wanted to do for a number of years but I have not had the opportunity until now for various reasons.  I really believe in this charity, I think the work they do is really worthwhile and makes such a difference to people's lives.

75% of the world’s population has no access to a dentist. No practice to visit when they are suffering from toothache, no one to see when that toothache is so debilitating it’s affecting their daily routine and ability to work or attend school.

Bridge2Aid’s response to this it to provide safe, sustainable access to emergency dental care to the people who need it the most. This is responsibly done through training and therefore does not act as a ‘quick fix’ solution. Successfully trained Health Workers go on to provide access to their communities of approximately 10,000 people who previously had no access to even the simplest form of dental pain relief.

Since 2002, Bridge2Aid has trained over 300 rural based Health Workers in emergency dental care. This training has not only directly treated tens of thousands of people but has also extended access to dental pain relief to people living in the rural areas. Over 3 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they are suffering with dental pain in East Africa.
