Story
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life.
I wanted to raise money for the charity so I applied for a 100km trek along the Pembrokeshire Coast. Sleeping in a tent. In June (I hate warm weather at the best of times).
Why not pick something simple and easy like a coffee morning instead?
A little bit because I like to challenge myself to do things completely outside of my comfort zone. A little bit because I honestly didn’t believe I’d be one of the 100 successful applicants out of 1000 😅
And a HUGE bit because of my family 💗 My family are my why.
My Grandparents are real life super heroes - although neither like a fuss and told me that I must have been mistaken when I told them they were my inspiration 🙈 I can’t quite find the right words (yet) to express exactly why it’s all their fault that I’m doing this crazy challenge. But for now I will simply say that their strength, courage and positivity in the last year has been staggering and has put so many things into perspective for me. Cancer is unimaginably cruel and I’m on a mission to do anything I can to raise money and awareness to try and help people stop it in its tracks as early as possible.
Just before his surgery my Grandad gave me a hug and said, “Whatever you do, just make sure you have fun!” He was talking about our wedding but I have since decided that it’s a great motto to have in life. So here I am throwing myself (tentatively) at every ‘fun’ opportunity that comes my way 😄
CoppaFeel are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
