Story
Macmillan is an organisation I have always supported and valued, but never more so than in 2016, when my Grandpa was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Having struggled with illness for a couple of years with no concrete diagnosis, in December 2016 doctors finally diagnosed him with pancreatic cancer. As a close-knit family with my grandparents at the heart of it, we were devastated. He battled for 7 months before cancer took his life in July 2017.
Whilst this was a hugely difficult time for our entire family, it was particularly demanding for my Nan who became my Grandad’s primary carer in his last few months. Macmillan were able to take some of this pressure off of my Nan by helping sort his medication and ensured they both had everything that they needed. As well as helping with the medical needs of my Grandpa, they also provided emotional support to guide him through the scary time. They were able to take time to talk with my Grandad about any worries he had and keep him company in his last few months, so he never felt alone.
Cancer is a horrific disease that hugely impacted our family, and I wanted to have the opportunity to give back to an organisation who
gave so much to my family. For those of you who know me, you’ll be aware that I love going on short runs along the beach. However, I don’t think any of my 5km runs will prepare me for this challenge I am about to take on. I am so excited (and slightly terrified!) to be running the London Marathon on 26th April 2020 and hope to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan.
I would massively appreciate any donations, even the smallest amounts help!
I can’t wait to smash this new challenge ahead and I know that my Grandpa would be so proud of me for doing this in aid of him.
