Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Kate and Mike's story - my very special cousin and Mike an inspiration to everyone he knows !

On the 26th August 2012 Kate and Mike's lives changed forever, Mike at the age of 39 had a massive stroke. After 3 days his brain started to swell and Kate was advised he wouldn't be resuscitated if he stopped breathing. After lots of praying Mike made it through the other side and started to wake up. He spent 3 weeks in the Acute Stroke unit before being moved to South Bristol rehab for a further 3 months and came home in his wheelchair just before Christmas, only managing to walk a few steps.

Mike is a true inspiration to us all and has always been up for a challenge and since that day in August, he's faced the biggest challenge of his life, learning to walk and speak again. 18 months have now passed and after much blood, sweat and tears he's ready to face  the 5k challenge at Ashton court supported by his family and friends to help raise money for other stroke victims.

Mike's physical challenges still go on daily and he also still faces the challenge of learning to speak again. But hearing Mike say a few new words and forming sentences each time I see him and knowing how hard he has worked to achieve this, makes me very proud.

Every year approximately 152,000 people suffer a stroke in the UK, most people are over the age of 65, but anyone can have a stroke including children and even babies. Mike's stroke was a combination of a clotting disorder and a heart condition, which he had lived with all of his life without knowing.

Please help "Team Mike" to raise money to support stroke victims and their families.
