Story
I will be taking part in a fundraiser for the charity IMPS. IMPS stands for 'Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools' (http://www.impsweb.co.uk/).
The charity invites year 6 classes from all around the country into their local hospitals and teaches them basic first aid such as CPR and the recovery position. In addition it also teaches them to reduce the chances of injuries and incidences such as electric shocks, scalds, and choking.
However, as I have mentioned IMPS is a charity so the majority of its funding comes from fundraisers and donations. So as part of a fundraiser I will be taking part in an abseil 100ft down the side of the JR hospital on the 3rd of april, in the attmpt to raise as much money as possible. I have been informed that the objective is to raise in the region of £4700 that will pay for AED Simulators so the children can also learn how to use the 'do it yourself' difibulators that are becoming increasingly common in workplaces, train stations etc.
Using this website is a great way to make donations as all money is gift aided (meaning a little extra money gets given to the charity at no extra cost to yourself). Having said that if anyone would rather give me donations personally I will be more than happy to do that, not to mention the collection tin I have left on Pams counter in the common room for any loose change. Every little helps!
IMPS covers 192 primary schools in Oxfordshire alone! Since it was set up 18 years ago it has taught these basic first aid skills to over 50,000 young people in oxfrodshire and over 250,000 nationally!
So please, give generously as IMPS is providing these children with skills that have, and will, save lives.
Thank you.
